Does Your Roof Have Damage After a Recent Storm?

Severe Weather Season is Here

Spring is here and so is severe weather season! During the months of April through June, we typically see weather threats of hail, winds, tornadoes and severe thunderstorms. BRYJO is always concerned about our customers when severe storms come through the metroplex. We are here to help!

Depending on the severity of the storm and whether hail was present will define your next steps. Hail and wind can cause significant damage to your property. Hail will shorten the lifespan of your roof and may even lead to full roof replacement.

Here’s What You Need to do After a Storm:

  • Property inspection: Walk your property and look for any damage. With high wind or hail, you can check for missing shingles by looking for large black or gray spots in your shingles. Keep in mind that shingles in your yard do not necessarily mean they are from your roof. They could come from a neighbor. Look for cracks or holes in your skylights from the inside of your home. Look for dents or scratches on your gutters, vents and roof flashing. Look for holes in window screens, or dings on your A/C unit. If you have any of the above damage, it’s a good chance you will likely have an insurance claim. You will want to call us for a FREE inspection.
  • Do not call your insurance company to make a claim until your roof has been inspected: You do not want your insurance company to count your call as a claim if it isn’t really a claim… Schedule a FREE inspection.
  • Don’t panic: You have 6 months to file a claim. If you do not have broken windows, skylights or no leaks/water intrusion, you can be patient and have your roof inspected and repaired accordingly. Remember, our storm season is a few months and there could be another storm!
  • Beware of storm chasers and deductible buyers: If you in fact have storm damage to your roof, a legitimate and ethical contractor will not rush or push you into signing a contract by offering to “absorb your deductible.” THIS IS ILLEGAL according to Texas Law HB2103. You are responsible for paying your deductible. The insurance carrier pays for the rest of the damage assuming you have RECOVERABLE DEPRECIATION in your coverage. (Check your policy and make sure you have the correct coverage).
